🌈 Move With Pride: Celebrate LGBTQ+ Strength & Prep for the Blue Ridge Pride 5K

At Outshine Physical Therapy and Fitness, movement is for everyone. Pride Month is a time to uplift and celebrate our LGBTQ+ community—and there's no better way to honor that than by moving together, proudly and joyfully.

We’re especially excited to support this year’s Blue Ridge Pride 5K, happening Saturday, June 14 right here in Asheville!

Train With Pride

Whether you're walking, jogging, or running your heart out, prepping your body before the race is key to feeling strong and confident on the course.

Here’s how to warm up and recover like a pro:

  • Dynamic Warm-Up Before your run, activate your muscles with:

    • Leg swings (front-to-back and side-to-side)

    • Walking lunges

    • High knees

  • Post-Run Reset After crossing the finish line, ease into recovery with:

    • Gentle calf, quad, and hip flexor stretches

    • Foam rolling to reduce soreness

    • Deep breathing to bring down your heart rate

  • Listen to Your Body If you feel any sharp pain, tightness that won’t resolve, or fatigue that lingers, it may be time to check in with your PT. We’re here to support you—before, during, and after the race.

Bright rainbow flag and transgender flag waving against a clear blue sky, conveying a mood of inclusivity and pride.

Queer Joy Is Resistance

Fitness can be an incredibly affirming experience—when it’s safe and inclusive.

At Outshine, we know that for many LGBTQ+ individuals, past experiences in gyms or healthcare settings may have been dismissive or even harmful. That’s why we’ve created a space where all bodies, identities, and expressions are welcomed and celebrated.

Movement supports:

  • Mental health and emotional well-being

  • Confidence and resilience

  • A deeper connection to your body and its strength

We call that queer joy, and we’re proud to support it every day.

🏳️‍🌈 Outshine Is a Proud Ally

We proudly serve on the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Provider List, and our care is:

  • Trauma-informed

  • Gender-affirming

  • Respectful, inclusive, and built around you

With Ally and Community Member Clinicians, our goal is to make you feel at home and empowered every step of the way.

How Outshine Can Help

Whether you’re racing your first 5K or you're a seasoned runner, we offer:

  • Pre-Race Tune-Ups Improve alignment, reduce tightness, and boost your efficiency

  • Post-Race Recovery Options include dry needling, cupping, guided stretching, and manual therapy

  • Mobility Screenings Identify movement patterns or imbalances that could lead to injury

We also specialize in supporting:

  • Folks living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) or joint hypermobility

  • Recovery and return-to-movement after gender-affirming top surgery

  • Managing and reducing chronic pain through compassionate, evidence-based care

We also provide ongoing support for those seeking gender-affirming physical therapy or safe spaces to reconnect with their bodies through movement.

Pridefully,

Dr. Maggie Parker (she/they)
